Fire Agate is a member of the Chalcedony family of microcrystalline Quartz and has a Triclinic crystal system. The amazing display of colors in Fire Agate are brought about by numerous, very thin layers of what is generally iron oxide within the stone, although it can also come from inclusions of goethite or limonite.
These inclusions were deposited onto the botryoidal chalcedony (which resembles a cluster of grapes) and then these mounds were covered with more layers of chalcedony. While hard to see in its rough form, the beautiful rainbow of colors are revealed to us by cutting and polishing away the grayish, outer layers.
The world's only known Fire Agate deposits fall within two general areas. One in the Sonoran Desert region that stretches from the southwest US to northern Mexico. The second is an area starting 100 miles north of Mexico City that lies between two north-south mountain ranges, the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Sierra Madre Oriental. Both of these areas went through very extensive volcanic activity, mainly during the Tertiary Period (24 to 36 million years ago).
The ones I currently have available have come from the Slaughter Mountain area in Arizona.
Fire Agate has a special affinity with Aries but benefits all signs. It has a Projective Energy, it's Element is Fire and its Planet is Mercury.
This one is relatively new in that it was not 'named' until the late 1930's or early 1940's and there really is not any folklore out there.
I would have to speculate that native peoples used, and were aware of, Fire Agate, but I have not been able to find any 'fables' to share with you.
Being fortunate to have some pieces to 'play' with, I do have to say it really did settle me before meditating. It also offered a very comforting feeling when laid on the 1st Chakra. When laid it on the 2nd Chakra, I found I received a creative burst of ideas that may have been lurking and were finally brought to my conscious thought. I can now see how wearing one would provide an inner peace which can allow the creative juices to flow.
Fire Agate when used for spiritual purposes is very protective. In providing us with a safe spiritual space, our physical body relaxes and the effect of meditation is greatly enhanced. It also provides us with great spiritual strength and helps to grow our consciousness.
Fire Agate provides a deep connection to Mother Earth bringing calmness to our emotions. We begin to feel safe and secure from its tremendous grounding abilities, and it is a great aid to navigate calmly through bumpy emotional times in our lives.
Fire Agate provides a strong protection against ill wishes for us. It seems to build a protective shell around us that bounces harmful thoughts of others back to them. Amazingly, the source of this ill thinking is also kindly informed of the harm it is doing and is generally stopped. It can also provide us the needed energy to take our best thoughts and move them into positive actions in our life.
Fire Agate has been used as an aid to several sexual conditions in that it provides a 'fired-up' 1st Chakra. It can be used on acupressure meridians to dissolve blocks which can aid in reducing circulatory disorders. And it has also been noted to enhance/improve night vision.
2nd Chakra - color of orange. Brings in energy from our spiritual outer bodies and acts as an aid in reaching a spiritual awareness of our life purpose. It strengthens our ability and will to manifest our life purpose here on earth. It will also assist with our karmic agreements for this lifetime as well as provide us the stability and concentration to manifest our life's work.
