    Crystal System...
    Howlite has a monoclinic crystal system and is in the mineral class of hydrous borates. Its coloring is white with gray streaks. It is found as nodules embedded in clay of borax deposits in California. Nova Scotia has similar, but smaller nodules in gypsum beds.

    Howlite has a soft structure and is easily dyed. The most common coloring for those purposes is blue to appear to be turquoise. For many years, it was substituted for and sold as turquoise, but generally is now marketed with the name of Turquenite (or derivitives). Some claim that the dyed versions carry the same properties for healing as Turquoise. While there may be some similarities, generally I have found them to both be quite different.

    Zodiac Affinity...
    Howlite has a special affinity with Gemini and Pisces but benefits all signs. Its Elements are Earth and Water, its Energy is Magnetic, and its Planets are Venus and Neptune.

    Folklore...
    Howlite has been used to aid sleep and to assist in bringing back wisdom gained in the dream state.

    Named after its discoverer Henry How (a Nova Scotia geologist), it is one of those minerals that is probably more famous for imitating another stone, turquoise (dyed).

    Application...
    Many who have passed over this stone may want to give it a try. It is slow acting, but very beneficial. I have found Howlite is best used when carried, laid upon the third eye, above the head, or set out in a frequently used area.

    Howlite encourages a sense of spiritual connection and wisdom, and reflects and transmits spirit energy throughout the body.

    Emotionally...
    Howlite cleanses the mind and emotions of negative thoughts and images, and can remove the sense of frustration and destructive feelings. It can be used to calm communication, to facilitate awareness, and to encourage emotional expression.

    Mentally...
    Howlite aids in our ability to assimilate information, and keeps us open minded, providing understanding. It can also aid in correcting learning difficulties and relieves rigid belief systems. It spurs one toward the ambition to reach ones goals and assists in eliminating hesitation with respect to action.

     

    		  

    Physically...
    Howlite gently absorbs and uplifts stress, tension, anxiety, emotional intensity, etc. It is quietly loving and calming. Howlite brings us back into balance and can provide relief from migrane headaches and depression. It can also be useful in balancing calcium levels in the body (by stimulating an increase or decrease, depending upon the area it needs to correct).

    Corresponding Chakra...
    7th Chakra - color of white. Can mask or unmask delusion and illusion in one's life. Aids in creating or dissolving masks and costumes on the mental level. Helps prevent tearing down your reality to create a deception. Expands consciousness and refuses limitations. However, it can be used positively or negatively as an escape for yourself, honestly, or dishonestly towards others.
