Fourth or Heart Chakra

4th Chakra Symbol

4th / Heart Chakra / Sanskrit: Anahata

There are seven energy spots that make up the major Chakras and each governs the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of our lives. In healing with crystals, assistance is given to the areas that may be blocked or excessive to balance the energy flow through our body and aid in our overall well being.

It has always intrigued me that there are seven major Chakras and seven families or shapes in the Crystal System. I don't believe this has occurred by "accident". Generally, while color is always a good starting point, many times it is the shape (see the Crystal Systems and You pages) of the crystal that will be of more benefit in bringing about balance in a Chakra.

I used to be puzzled with stone choices my hand was drawn to at different times since the "color" didn't match, but when I later looked up the crystal system the stone was in, it then made perfect sense. And, there will always be exceptions to every "rule". We are each unique and complicated, and it is sometimes just not possible to know anything more than "this is the combination that will help." The stones are wiser than me, my hands are just their tools to use.

If you have issues with love, balance, acceptance of yourself or others, intimacy or grief, this would be an area to be working on. In using a green and pink/red together, I have found good results in encompasing the minor Chakra of the Higher Heart which acts as a bridge between the lower and upper Chakras opening the access to higher spiritual realms.

Areas Governed
The 4th Chakra is about love and acceptance. This is where we access our compassion and acceptance of ourselves and others, are provided with a healthy immune system, feel our peace in this life and where our balance comes from.

When in Balance...
We are compassionate, warm, accepting, and are comfortable in relationships and intimacy.

When Excessive...
We can be codependent, become clingy or jealous in relationships, have poor boundaries, be demanding and martyr like in our self-sacrifices.

When Deficient...
We may suffer from loneliness and isolation, be intolerant of ourselves and others, be judgemental, have a fear of intimacy and relationships or have a lack of empathy.

Healing the Chakra...
As in the preceeding Chakras, it is important to reconnect with our body when out of balance here. Adding green vegetables or dark leafy greens to the diet can help. Explore breathing exercises, journaling as an aid to self-discovery, allow the release of grief and find forgiveness when appropriate. Physical ailments rooted in this Chakra can include coronary artery disease, heart attack, hypertension, chest pain, asthma, lung cancer, back or shoulder problems or breast problems including cancer.

Note: When using gemstones for healing, the energy should be directed through the body flowing from Earth to Sky or Sky to Earth, depending on what is to be worked on. For this Chakra, drawing from sky to earth is very beneficial. But, always keep in mind that there is no "right" or "wrong" way if the good that is brought helps you to realize your wholeness.
